The difference between residential and commercial grade wrought iron fencing is the size and weight of the components that make up the fence. For example, a 4-foot tall residential grade wrought iron fence section has 1/2-inch vertical pickets and weighs about 45 pounds. A 4-foot-tall commercial grade wrought iron fence section consists of ¾-inch vertical pickets and weighs about 70 pounds.
When we talk about “residential” grade or “commercial” grade, it doesn’t mean you can only use residential grade in your home or commercial grade in a commercial setting. You can use both options in absolutely any application. The terms residential and commercial are simply used to indicate that one is lighter and one is heavier than the other.
A commercial grade wrought iron fence will cost approximately 50% more than a residential grade. We determined the cost of a wrought iron fence by adding up the fence sections, posts and gates needed for a particular project. Fence sections are sold in 8-foot wide lengths and their price includes the hardware needed to install them. Posts are typically 2′ or 3′ longer than the height of the fence section (so they can be buried in concrete), and their price includes a standard post cap. Our gates also include hinges and latches in the price. An easy way to estimate the total cost of a 4′ high residential wrought iron fence is to use $16.50 per foot. The cost of a 4 foot commercial wrought iron fence would be about $24 per linear foot.
